Packaged Bank Accounts are the next big mis-selling scandal after PPI. PBAs are current accounts with ‘additional benefits’, typically insurance products covering travel, mobile phones and breakdown. These usually come at a cost of between £5 and £30 per month, adding up to hundreds of pounds a year.

Barclays Packaged Bank Accounts go under the name of ‘Premier Current Accounts’. These accounts have taken over from the original Barclays PBAs, known as ‘Additions Plus’.
The accounts all come with a range of added ‘benefits’, from worldwide travel insurance to gadget insurance, costing up to £17.50 per month. The bank is one of the worst offenders, receiving 3.4 complains per 1,000 customers. As a result, it has set aside a remarkable £250m to compensate customers who have been mis-sold PBAs.
