A&L PPI Claims & Brief History

Alliance and Leicester, the bank and former building society, is now a part of the Spanish bank, Banco Santander.

It was acquired by Santander in 2008 and everything was transferred into their business by 2010, and was officially re-branded as Santander by 2011.

Alliance and Leicester offered general banking facilities, including loans and mortgages.

They also offered credit cards through a partnership with MBNA until the Santander acquisition.

At this point, Alliance and Leicester then started to offer Santander credit cards with the relevant branding.

Santander, including Alliance & Leicester, have set aside over £1 billion to cover the cost of mis-sold PPI. Alliance & Leicester received the largest fine to date for mis-selling PPI, a cool £7 MILLION.
